The Rose Bed

I never know where to start when there is so much to be done.  I'm one of those gardeners that start off doing a job but then something else will catch my eye and I start on that without finishing the job I was actually doing. ( A bit like my crochet actually )  So this year I am going to try to be more methodical, I tackled the pampas grass last week so it only makes sense to tidy the rose bed that lie's right next to it.

You can see what I'm talking about can't you in fact the whole garden is just as bad as this!

Can you believe that buried under all that mess I have four beautiful David Austin roses just screaming for attention.

So after much pruning, digging and clearing it does look a lot tidier

 Don't you think ?

All it needs now is some rose fertilizer and a bit of mulching, looks like a trip to the garden is in order for my next day off...now lets start a list.

The rose bed is the only place that's tidy can you spot it?

Rescued

I have waited all year for my Spring bulbs to flower and display their loveliness I have watched while the green stems sprung and the buds appeared, waited patiently for the flowers to open and it was a long wait because of the long cold winter.
Then the sun appeared and the temperatures rose.....and the petals opened ever so cautiously... then came the winds that threatened to destroy them before they had a chance to display their full splendour.....

so I rescued them and brought them indoors :)

Here they are safe and sound

Their lovely scent is filling the air and makes me giddy

The Battle of the Pampas grass

I have the same battle every year, at this time of the year pampas grass does look quite unsightly and I have the problem of what to do with it.

I usually just clip it down with my garden shears

I have set fire to it in the past but I always feel a bit guilty because of the ensuing smoke and smell.

There we go all neat and tidy once more

It does make a bit of a mess though

That looks better!

I had to come in because my next door neighbour is burning garden rubbish, how ironic is that ha ha.  The smoke is billowing everywhere and the smell of it has clung to my clothes.

'Tête-à-tête' Daffodils

The only things that are flowering in my garden at the moment

The promise of beautiful things to come.

Better late than never :)

Why a gardening Blog?

This is the first time this year the weather has been nice enough to go outside and actually do some gardening,  as a result there is so much to be done.  We have had a bitterly cold winter and all growth is at a minimum.  I have started this blog in an effort to motivate myself to do all the jobs that need to be done in my quite large garden.  If anyone would like to follow my gardening exploits  they are most welcome.
